What is EFT?
Emotional Freedom Techniques
Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) Tapping falls within the realm of "energy psychology" and employs acupressure techniques to dissolve stubborn emotional barriers.
Often referred to as 'tapping’, this method entails a gentle two-finger tapping sequence on established acupuncture points. EFT focuses on identifying the precise issue to be resolved, accompanied by a simple two-finger tapping process.
How does EFT work?
Tapping on known acupoints sends deactivating signals to the amygdala (the fight or flight center of the brain). With repeated EFT the deactivating signals outweigh the activating signals of the stress response created by exposure to the distressing thought.
As EFT tapping brings about a more regulated nervous system, the distressing mental image or thought is unexpectedly met with less arousal and this “prediction error” prepares the neural network for change.
EFT shows improvement with key markers of stress including changes in resting heart rate, blood pressure, immune function, and the release of stress hormone cortisol.
Why does EFT work so well with fear of flying?
Fear can trigger a physical response that may linger in the body, leading to a recurring experience of that response with certain thoughts or images.
By utilizing acupressure to tap into your body's energy system, you can initiate a response that disrupts that physical reaction. It allows you to be able to think those same thoughts without the physiological reaction. From that place of calm you create new ways of feeling, thinking and being.
